BILL BRUFORD’S EARTHWORKS
Featuring Tim Garland

New Directions in Contemporary Music!

Influential British drummer Bill Bruford, known for his forceful, highly precise and polyrhythmic style of drumming, will be performing with his quartet Earthworks in Thailand this June.

A guiding light in the so-called British "Art Rock" movement, Bill Bruford shot to fame as the original drummer for progressive rock group Yes, contributing to such classic albums as The Yes Album , Fragile and Close to the Edge , before quitting the band at the height of their success to join the equally renowned King Crimson. Bill, who was elected to the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1990, also played with other heavyweights like National Health, UK , and Genesis.

But, as well known as he is for his amazing work in progressive rock, Bill has always felt that his heart belongs to jazz. For almost thirty years he has nurtured a parallel career as a jazz band leader, starting with the dazzling fusion album Feels Good To Me in 1977. That album showcased Bill not only on the drum kit, but on vibraphone and marimba as well, and allowed him to stretch his compositional skills in the company of some top class musicians.

Bill Bruford's Earthworks, now reaching its twentieth anniversary, has developed through the years into a tremendous acoustic quartet which is considered one of the most successful jazz exports from the UK . The band now features the brilliant multi-instrumentalist and composer Tim Garland, who has worked extensively with the legendary Chick Corea, and who is a bandleader in his own right with the Storms/Nocturnes trio and the Dean Street Underground Orchestra among others.

Aside from Bruford and Garland , the current Earthworks line-up includes bassist Laurence Cottle, who has played with an incredible range of musicians from Black Sabbath to Eric Clapton to Brian Eno to Lee Konitz; and on piano the youngest member, Gwilym Simcock, recent winner of the BBC Radio Rising Star Award.

Let Bill and his talented quartet show you a whole new direction in contemporary music!
