After several stellar performances featuring the acoustic sounds of Tim Garland’s Lighthouse Trio at Niu’s on Silom in September, Enlightened Planet shifts gears and heads in an entirely different direction for October: electric jazz fusion!

Enlightened Planet is proud to be associated with Prart Music Group’s presentation of the “Super Jazz Trio”, featuring Scott Henderson on guitar, Jeff Berlin on bass, and Dennis Chambers on drums, at 8:00pm on October 20th, 2009 at The Landmark Hotel Bangkok.

Scott Henderson claims to be a blues-rock guitar player. His early fascination with monster rock guitarists like Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck, and blues greats such as Albert King and Buddy Guy, tempered by the influence of jazz music, led him finally to the style of music he is most famous for playing and composing. In his early professional years he played with Chick Corea’s Elektric Band, violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, and Weather Report’s Joe Zawinul, and then set out to create his own sound with bands like Tribal Tech and Vital Tech Tones.

Jeff Berlin is considered by many people to be the finest electric bassist on the planet. His playing and recording credentials with bandleaders like Frank Zappa, Bill Bruford, John McLaughlin, Billy Cobham, George Benson, Michael Brecker, Isaac Hayes, k. d. lang, Mike Stern, and Bill Frisell give you some idea of the high esteem he is regarded with by musicians across all music genres. Jeff has also released seven CDs as a bandleader himself, and is founder and director of The Players School of Music.

Dennis Chambers started drumming at the age of four, and was performing in nightclubs in his hometown by the age of six! His powerful drumming style is his trademark, and he is highly in demand in rock and funk circles, playing with groups like Parliament/Funkadelic, Santana, Steely Dan, and with the great sax player Maceo Parker. His jazz and jazz fusion credits are equally impressive, having worked with a series of incredible jazz guitarists including John Scofield, John McLaughlin, Bireli Lagrene, and Mike Stern. And in his “spare time” he’s managed to release two CDs as a bandleader.

Three outstanding jazz fusion performers, together on one stage. If you like your jazz ELECTRIC and you like your jazz INTENSE, you’re going to love this lineup!

Tickets are available through ThaiTicketMajor.

The Henderson Berlin Chambers Trio will be playing dates around Southeast Asia this month. Check out this wonderful preview article of the band’s upcoming show in the Philippines!
